Mild steel starts as a dark blue/grey and will rust, if left untreated.

Aluminium is silver in colour and does not rust, and will stay shiny.

3mm Aluminium roughly weighs ½  as much as 2mm mild steel.

Material Cost:

Aluminium is slightly more expensive than mild steel.

Generally it only takes a few days in the rain or some dewy mornings for our mild steel products to rust up nicely in the garden. We generally send our product unrusted so that our customers have the option to paint them and/or watch them rust in the garden.

Mild steel is mainly composed of iron and a small amount of carbon.

Corten, also known as Designer Rust Plate while also made up of iron and carbon, is an alloy steel with additional elements such as copper. This gives Corten steel its unique self-protecting properties, meaning it will only rust to a certain point.

Corten will rust to orange patina in the early days before darkening to an orange-brown hue. Mild steel will rust straight away to the darker orange brown colour. After a few months both materials once rusted look incredibly similar and can be hard to tell apart.

The main benefit of Corten is that it will develop its unique layer of rust on the surface, which effectively acts as a protective barrier that prevents the steel itself from corroding, this means that Corten has an extremely long life span compared to mild steel.

If planning to put your piece outside & if you are located in area near salt water or with a lot rainfall/dew, Corten will be more enduring than Mild Steel.

Material Cost:

Corten steel is significantly more expensive than mild steel.

It really depends on your personal taste and how & where you are using it.

We are always happy to give advice, depending on your personal requirements.

We will work collaboratively with you by asking the right questions to work to make sure you have a long lasting, quality product that you can enjoy for many years.

Yes, for many years! We use high quality finished for our coloured products, so it will last for a long time no matter where you put it.

Our Powdercoated products should last between 15 to 25 years before they start to fade.

The Vinyl we use to decorate our garden stakes is the same vinyl used to wrap cars. The vinyl should last at least 7 - 10 years before fading starts. We have a red poppy which has been sitting outside since January 2020 and is still bright and vibrant!

Keeping products out of direct sunlight will make the colour last longer. Due to the make up of colours, cooler tones will generally last longer than warmer ones: i.e black & blue will last longer than red, orange and yellow.

Absolutely! We work hard to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle whatever we can.

We try and use every piece of metal we can, so we have as little scrap as possible.

We reuse cardboard to package our online orders.

Whatever metal scrap we do have, we separate out and recycle at our local depot. Our office also proudly shreds and recycles any paper waste.

All the time!  To date we have worked with and supplied metal artwork to 16 different RSL sub branches, 16 different schools ,plus numerous other community groups, across Australia. We have also done work for 8 councils, creating public art for their districts, ranging from signs to bin covers, wall art to free standing pieces.

Many of these groups have purchased our work through the use of grants, with us supplying a quote and photos of our work so they can be successful.
